                                                             Guidelines for Use
                                                             The use of multi-message signs shall comply with the following requirements:
                                                             •  Only Main Roads WA approved message plates or signs shall be used and shall only be placed
                                                               in the panel as shown in Mains Roads Traffic Management for Works on Roads Code of Practice
                                                               Appendix 4 - Multi-message sign inventory and application schedule.
                                                             •  Regulatory control message plates, where used shall always be positioned closest to traffic and
                                                               reflect condition.
                                                             •  Regulatory signs shall not be used in-conjunction with the NEXT ‘x’ km or ‘x’ km AHEAD message
                                                               plates.
                                      SMMF-129               •  Lane status 600 x 600 signs shall only contain two lane instruction (arrow) messages. Lane status
                                                               1200 x 600 signs may contain up to 4 lane instruction messages.
                                                             •  Where practical multi-message sign assemblies should be duplicated on both sides of the road or
                                                               carriageway, of the road to which the signs apply or as recommended by Australian Standards.
                                                             •  Signs shall be positioned in accordance with the requirements of Australian Standards - Manual of
                                               HS6825          Uniform Traffic Control Devices AS1742.3.
                                                             •  All sections of the frame assembly shall be filled. Messages should be logically linked and
                                                               conflicting messages should not be used.
